5 Months in 5 Minutes

As you can tell I am VERY diligent at keeping up this family blog. It consumes my every thought. Night and day, slaaving away at the keyboard... Hmm what has happened since April? Shall I let the photos do the talking? Ok.

In no particular order:

Sammie received her very first soccer ball. A little big I know, I must admit she "shares" it with me. It's so cute watching her kick it around the house. She's a natural.

First shot of her standing up in her crib. She sure has changed since then.

Wrong place for a bath Sammie.

We were living at the student housing at the U up until May. Scott received an internship he had applied for in Salt Lake City working for Savage Services and we were so excited to be spending our summer in Salt Lake. We had been planning and dreaming of all the fun we would have being around family and friends. Plans of boating, hiking, camping, soon went down the drain as we were offered to go to Texas for the  internship instead. We had about one day to decide if we wanted to go, we said "eh why not?" and then started packing our bags for the smoltering heat of Houston, Texas. This was one of our last pre-summer nights in Salt Lake.

In the meantime Preston got some bees.

And somewhere along the line we had a final cookout with the Bishoff siblings at Prestons house before we left for Texas. Little Makayla and Sammie are so little and hairless in this photo.

Since the heat kept us in most days Sammie learned all sorts of lovely tricks that kept me running from room to room trying to keep her out of things like the yummy toilet water.  (Hey I wash my body with that purple pouf Sammie! Gross)

Baby on a leash? Homemade but it works like a charm. No more judging those 11 year olds on leashes at amusement parks. I'm a believer.

We drove through Moab on our way to Texas and spent a morning sky diving. I have always thought of myself as kind of a tough girl, but after having a baby I myself have become quite the baby. Does anyone else feel like they have more nausea and less courage since having a baby?  I'm not going to post the aftermath photos of me...

We've been missing Aunt Cynthia. We also missed the Bishoff family reunion which Cynthia and Daren were able to go to and we were bummed we weren't able to see them.

Oh! and my little Tiffy got engaged!!! Look how happy they are.

And then she got married!!! Look how happy we are!!

While we were in Utah for the wedding we were treated to a few nights at the Grand America, thank you Savage Service- you may have drained out bank account moving us out there but at least we have these memories. We were treated like kings and queens. More tea? crumpets? Don't mind if I do.

Sammie in 4 states at 1 time, pretty neato Sam Sam.

I think she misses eating the sand.

Went to a cool sand castle competition. This is what we entered in. Pretty impressive for beginners right?... I wish we could build something like this.

We got to ride the ferry a few times down in our favorite place of Galveston.

NASA stuff.

Houston Zoo +  Sammie's fake smile she acquired in Texas.

Now that's more like it. Here's a real cheese ball.

Lots of swimming in Texas.

We didn't really mind our home for 2 months.

My fireworks photos are on another computer so this will have to do.  There is a really cool boardwalk about a mile from where we stayed in Texas. It had roller coasters and all sorts of theme parky, touristy things. My favorite part of the Kemah Boardwalk were the fireworks every Friday night.  This is us wishing the fireworks would never end, Sammie loved them.

Carouselling it up at the Kemah Boardwalk.

Piles and piles of sulfur. Scott was working with oil refineries and this huge pile of sulfur is a byproduct of refining oil. The things we learned in Texas.

I have told this story once, and I'll tell it again. As a typical baby, Sammie tends to put everything in her mouth. So it isn't uncommon to see her chewing something I didn't feed her. However, when I found THIS is what she decided to chew on one day, I decided to monitor her chewing habits a little closer. It is essentially a small cockroach. Which was still moving as I pried it from her mouth. Disgusting.

She must have realized what she had done because moments later I found her doing this.

As soon as we got home from Texas we wasted no time getting to the mountains. We went on a fun little camping trip with some of the cousins down in Huntington Utah.

And this is her now. Walking, talking, and learning new things everyday. She has become a little more of a mommy and daddy's girl, but she is still the happiest kid around. We love her more than anything.

We are living back in Salt Lake awaiting our fate as we wait hear from a few places Scott has interviewed with. Wish us luck!

Finally some video!

Look what I can do...

In my previous post I tried to explain how Sammie behaves when she doesn't get what she wants. Here is actual footage:

Little bad, lots of good

I have a 7 month old baby who doesn't like to eat.  Sammie really likes to look and sound like she is hungry all the time, but when it comes to actually eating something she'll take a few bites, pucker her lips and be done. Her thirst for milk has dwindled as well. I tell myself this is just a phase and she'll be eating like a normal Sammie baby in a few days but so far the refusal to eat continues. It's discouraging when all these other babies around me are eating 5 course meals 3 times a day, but Sammie has already proven she's not like other babies so we'll see how this plays out. Any suggestions on how to get a baby to eat would be appreciated.

On an even more depressing note:

Do you ever walk past the mirror and stop and say to yourself "I seriously look like this today?". That is how today is, and probably ever other day I just don't ever look in the mirror. Poor Scotty.

I should probably end with some of the things I love about this little girl to lighten the mood:)

She loves to be around other people. Kids, grown ups, anyone other than just mom.  Right outside of our apartments there is a park with swings, playground and a basketball court. There are always lots of moms and kids outside, especially now that it's starting to warm up. Sammie gets the biggest smile on her face when we go out. She laughs at everything the kids do. Yesterday started to walk back to the house and as we started up our stairwell Sammie started whining as if to say "aw man, do we really have to go back up THERE?". Needless to say we will be playing outside a lot this spring.

She is sleeping so so well in her crib. I count my many blessings when I am able to come home from working all night and Sammie will wake up to eat once, play in her crib, and go back to sleep so I can get some sleep.

She's a tough little cookie. If she gets hurt, or wants something, or is frustrated she can't do something she barely even whines. You can tell she is frustrated cause she makes this squishy face and starts hyperventilating but she doesn't just break down and cry like she used to. I think she is figuring out that if she works a little harder or waits a little longer she'll eventually get to that toy she wants, or her mom will eventually bring her something to eat.

She is the best. Scott and I tell ourselves what a cutie she is probably a thousand times a day. She never fails to bring a smile to our faces. Love that Sammie.

6 months!

Look at this awesome 6 month old! Say what?! I feel like Sammie is still so little but she's half a year old and according to my Sammie Calendar I only have 17.5 years left with her. I really don't like thinking about that.
This little girl loves to:
  • Talk really REALLY loud- she likes to see how loud her voice can go, fun for mom right?
  • Roll everywhere- we found her under Glen & Lindsey's ottoman, no sure how she rolled under that small space.
  • Eat rice cereal and oatmeal cereal
  • Bounce in her bouncer toy
  • Chew on her fingers
  • Say "Dadadadadadaadadadadad" all the time- I wish it was "Mamamama" but it makes Scott happy
  • Refuse to sleep- even though she rubs her eyes, yawns, rubs her head on the floor, and cries she refuses to sleep until she can no longer physically resist sleep.
  • Wake up with a big smile on her face- she only has this smile on when she wakes up between 7-9am if it's any sooner we usually don't get smiles.
  • Loves loves loves balloons
  • Likes bath time
  • Loves to look at herself in the mirror- she looks at herself (smiles), at me in the mirror (smiles), up at me in person (smiles), and back to herself in the mirror (smiles). She could do that for hours.
  • Sleep in her swing- I really need to get her to fall asleep in her crib but its SO much easier to get her asleep in her swing...I know I know not smart but sometimes I just want her to just fall asleep easily.

Sammie has been such a joy to be around. Scott and I still fight over who gets to hold her, cuddle with her and pick her up when she's crying. Who knows how long that will last but for now we can't get enough of our little Sammie.

These are Valentine's, Birthday, and other random photos of this 6 month old beauty.

Final Catch up

My family has an ongoing tradition (ever since last year) of going to temple square and eating dinner at Shellie's wonderful Christmasy house in the avenues. Everyone in Utah probably has this tradition but taking the boys and now having Sammie, makes going out in the freezing cold with millions of people, somewhat  enjoyable.  Bummer I didn't get any pics of Jack but he was there.

Me and my Sam Sam. Except you can't see her, so really it's just me and a stroller- sure love that stroller. Wish the temple was clear but we took the wrong lens :(

Max looking confused but cute.

A little doll/puppet boy with Aunt Sheddie- look they are almost the same size

This is the only picture of more than 2 people in the family..it works. Oh wait, if you look hard enough Jack IS in these photos. Perfect. Shellie decided to say a prayer, how appropriate.

Twin Topia!

Tiffy and Ty Ty. Cute pic.
